Overview

Creating spaces where students feel like they belong requires more than thoughtful design. It requires understanding the people those spaces are meant to serve.

In partnership with the Council of the Great City Schools and Baltimore City Public Schools, the goal was to transform a school library into a vibrant, student-centered environment that celebrated literacy, representation, and community while creating a space where students could feel seen, inspired, and connected.

Working closely with district leadership, loft135 helped bring that vision to life through creative direction, environmental design oversight, project management, photography, video production, and branded experiences. From signage and custom furnishings to visual storytelling and stakeholder communications, every design decision was guided by a single objective: creating an environment that fostered curiosity, encouraged connection, and reflected the voices of the students it was designed to serve.

Results

The completed library became more than a renovated space. It became a welcoming environment that celebrated learning, reflected the diversity of its community, and encouraged students to see themselves within it.

To capture the transformation, loft135 produced a documentary-style film featuring students, educators, and district leaders, preserving the stories behind the project and showcasing the lasting impact of a thoughtfully designed learning environment.
